WHAT TO CONSIDER WHEN BUYING AN RV COVER
Metal RV Covers Built On-Site for Motorhomes, Campers & 5th Wheels
MaxSteel’s installed metal RV Covers protect your motorhome from sun, rain, snow, and UV damage—built on your site with durable steel framing and customizable height options for Class A, B, C, and 5th wheel RVs.
We deliver and install across the Southeast, offering turnkey RV shelters that meet local engineering and wind/snow requirements.
Why Choose a Metal RV Cover for Your Motorhome or Camper?
A steel RV cover is the most reliable long-term way to protect your motorhome from costly exterior damage. Unlike fabric covers that tear or trap moisture, a steel RV carport offers permanent, year-round protection with minimal maintenance.
Installed RV Covers Provide:
- UV and sun protection to prevent fading
- Roof and side panel shielding from rain, hail, and debris
- Open or enclosed sides for airflow
- Certified engineering options for high-wind or high-snow regions
- Customizable height to clear A/C units, ladders, and antennas
- Turnkey on-site installation
Popular RV Carport Sizes
Most RV owners choose one of these standard sizes (all fully customizable):
| RV Type | Common Width | Recommended Length | Recommended Leg Height |
|---|---|---|---|
| Class B Camper Vans | 12’–18′ | 25’–30′ | 12’–14′ |
| Class C Motorhomes | 18’–22′ | 30’–35′ | 12’–14′ |
| Class A Motorhomes | 22’–30′ | 35’–45′ | 14’–16′ |
| 5th Wheels / Travel Trailers | 18’–30′ | 35’+ | 14’–16′ |
Every structure is custom-built on-site and can be upgraded with side panels, gables, or fully enclosed walls.

FAQ: What Size RV Cover Do I Need?
The size you need depends on your RV class, roof-mounted accessories, and parking clearance. Choose a cover at least 2–3 feet longer and 3–5 feet taller than your RV’s total height, including A/C units.
Recommended Sizes by RV Class
Class A (33’–45’)
- Width: 22’–30′
- Length: 35’–45’+
- Leg Height: 14’–16’+
Class C (20’–33’)
- Width: 18’–22′
- Length: 30’–35′
- Leg Height: 12’–14′
Class B (16’–20’)
- Width: 12’–18′
- Length: 25’–30′
- Leg Height: 12’–14′
5th Wheel / Travel Trailers
- Width: 18’–30′
- Length: 35’+
- Leg Height: 14’–16’+
Tip: Measure your clearance with your A/C unit, vent caps, ladders, solar panels, or satellite equipment included.
FAQ: Metal RV Cover vs. Canvas/Fabric Covers
A steel RV structure lasts decades longer and provides complete overhead protection—unlike soft covers, which need yearly replacement.
Comparison: Metal vs Fabric RV Covers
| Feature | Metal RV Cover | Canvas/Fabric Cover |
|---|---|---|
| Lifespan | 20–40 years | 1–3 years |
| UV Protection | Excellent | Poor–Moderate |
| Snow & Rain Protection | High | Low |
| Mildew Risk | None | High |
| Maintenance | Very Low | High |
| Structural Protection | Full roof + optional sides | Minimal |
| Long-Term Cost | Lower | Higher (frequent replacements) |
Bottom line: A fabric cover protects for a season—a steel cover protects for decades.

Roof Types
When choosing a roof type for your carport or RV cover, it’s important to consider the specific area you plan to locate your metal building and whether you can expect snow or harsh weather or falling debris from nearby trees. All our buildings include FREE delivery and assembly by one our professional installation teams as long as the job site complies with requirements (see your local dealer for details).
Regular
A Regular style roof on your RV carport/cover or metal building can provide the protection you need for your vehicles or equipment at an affordable price and in a variety of sizes. Rather than the roof extending out to form an eave on the sides, the ends of each truss are curved downward, which provides additional height without the cost of purchasing taller posts. Because the metal panels run gable-to-gable, they are curved around the frame at the corners, providing additional coverage from the weather.
Boxed Eave
Boxed-eave (or “A-frame”) roof styles create a more traditional and attractive roof line for your carport, RV cover or metal structure with only a modest increase in price. Like the Regular style, the metal panels run perpendicular to the roof slope, so they’re better for warmer and drier climates that don’t require maximum drainage due to harsh weather. Metal Buildings with a Boxed Eave roof also provide 4-6″ of overhang on the sides that are finished with boxed trim.
Vertical
A Vertical style roof for your metal carport or RV cover has the BEST long-term value and is ideal for protecting vehicles and equipment from weather elements. The metal panels and ribs run parallel to the slope, creating more efficient drainage and preventing snow load or debris build-up. Steel hat channel is utilized under the metal panels and adds strength to the structure. Vertical style roofs have 4-6″ of overhang and are finished with boxed trim on all sides. Vertical Roof design is the best investment to extend the life of your carport or RV cover roof.
